Stewardship Across Generations
The Family Behind Delmas
Delmas is a family-owned estate built around a long-term commitment to SJR Vineyard and The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. Across generations, the Robertson family has shaped Delmas through shared decision-making, with farming, winemaking, and hospitality all connected through the same hands and a lasting sense of stewardship.
The name Delmas has been handed down from mother to oldest daughter for generations. That tradition continues today through Brooke Delmas Robertson and her daughter, Remy Delmas Robertson.
Steve & Mary Robertson Founders
Steve and Mary Robertson began their life in wine in Napa Valley in the early 1980s, where Brooke was born, and carried that vision forward by planting SJR Vineyard in 2007. Together, they helped build Delmas as a true family estate, with each person playing a distinct role in its growth.
Mary helped establish the sales foundation for Delmas, drawing on her background in wine marketing, sales, and distribution. As an accomplished artist, she has also contributed to the brand's visual expression, bringing an informed perspective to color and label development.
Steve leads business development, administration, and finance for Delmas and SJR Vineyard. Alongside decades of experience in real estate development and manufacturing, he has played an important role in shaping the wider region, including spearheading the successful petition to establish The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA and founding Rocks District Winegrowers. In 2020, he received the Industry Leadership Award from the Oregon Wine Board.
Brooke Delmas Robertson Director of Winegrowing
Brooke Robertson leads the viticultural and winemaking direction for Delmas and SJR Vineyard, keeping farming and cellar work in one continuous conversation. Before returning to lead the estate, she worked as a viticulturist in Napa Valley alongside respected growers including Barbour, Piña, and The Napa Valley Reserve, and spent time in Australia with Torbreck, focused on small lots of highly sought-after Rhône-style wines.
Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Oregon State University and an Associate degree in Applied Arts and Sciences in Enology and Viticulture from Walla Walla Community College. She also studied viticulture at Cal Poly and earned a certificate in winemaking from UC Davis. Brooke is certified as an Advanced Vine Master Pruner through the Simonit & Sirch Academy.
Beyond Delmas, Brooke is active in regional winegrowing leadership. She serves as an elected representative for Eastern Oregon for the Oregon Winegrowers Association and helped create the Vineyard Technical Group for the Walla Walla Valley in conjunction with Oregon State University and Rocks District Winegrowers. In 2024, she was named one of Wine Enthusiast’s Future 40 Tastemakers.
Remy Delmas Robertson Our Future
Born in 2023 to Brooke and Matthew, Remy represents the next generation of Delmas. She will grow up with this rocky soil beneath her feet and a family legacy taking shape around her, should she choose to carry it forward.
