2015 Delmas Syrah
SJR Vineyard Walla Walla Valley
The 2015 Delmas Syrah is compelling blend of 91.4% Syrah with 8.6 % Viognier that is sourced from the esteemed SJR Vineyard, located in the Walla Walla Rocks region of Milton-Freewater. This great Syrah wine was aged for 14 months in French oak (60% new) prior to bottling. The wine is unfined and unfiltered. This has deep and dark aromatics reminiscent of black tea, wild blackberry jam, horse manure, thyme, crushed wet rock, milk chocolate and black olive. The aromatic range is really lovely. The texture is absolutely incredible as is the silky mouthfeel as this gracefully glides across the mid-palate. The fruits are powerful, dense and layered. Umami, Hoisin sauce, sweet dark cherries, blood orange, wild blackberry jam and wet stone flavors entice. Due to the heat of the vintage, this wine tends to drink slightly better at a cooler temperature where aromatic and flavor range seem the most compelling. This is another hugely irresistible release by Delmas. Drink 2017-2028.
